Mill Valley Peak (Red)
This multi color hand pulled screen print depicts the view from Richardson Bay through the headlands of Mill Valley to the east peak of Mount Tam. The print is comprised of five separate layers, including three with split fountain gradients, which build depth and create a greater contrast of color within the relief. Each is printed on archival cotton rag paper, signed, numbered and hand torn to size leaving a finished deckled edge. Each print in the series of 40 is slightly unique and vary because of the printing techniques involved in the process. This is the second of two Mill Valley Tam prints. This one capturing the moment the sun settles behind the peak for the day.
Like most of my work much of the inspiration comes from things I encounter on a weekly if not daily bases. While commuting home to Marin from San Francisco I was stuck in traffic on Richardson Bay Bridge and took photos of Tam's east peak loving the vantage point of being up over the water with an unobstructed view of the mountain. I have a hard time settling on one color way for my prints and with landscapes I really enjoy seeing how different colors within the same composition change the presentation and engagement with the viewer.
